Icom IC-725

My Icom IC-725 is my main HF set, a classic set from the early 1990’s, and one I am very fond of.  It is now getting to the stage that it is heavily modified, having had the following work carried out on it:-

  • Optional Icom AM/FM board fitted
  • Opened up for continuous all mode transmit 300KHz – 33MHz.  This was done so that I could explore the 60m (5MHz) band with my NoV.
  • Replacement expired back light blubs with12v neon LEDs.
  • Optional 250Hz filter fitted to allow reception on the narrow CW-N mode.
  • Tweak of the power level drive.  CW and FM now outputs 120Watts cleanly, SSB circa 5Watts to 100Watts cleanly, and of course on AM 5W to 40W (the standard).  Also, this set can now drop down below the standard minimum of 10W on SSB and AM to 5W to meet QRP requirements.
