I just love my Yaesu FT-7800E for mobile use. It is a robust and trustworthy rig that I have in the car, attached to a Diamond MR77 mini mag mount antenna.
I downloaded from the UK Repeaters website, all the analogue FM repeaters in the UK for 2m and 70cm, ie the frequencies that this rig can access. I ensured that I had both the names of the repeater and the CTCSS codes. I next reformatted the file into a spreadsheet and ensured that it is in the correct format for the rig programming software. I purchased a programming cable and programmed the rig using approximately 300 of the 1,000 memories available.
This means that when I press the V/M button to go into the memory modes, all the repeaters are named, for example, if I want to access GB3PZ in Manchester, then since they are all in alphabetical order in the rigs memory, all I have to do is keep rotating the frequency dial until the repeater GB3PZ is shown.
Although I do travel to the Republic of Ireland often, I have still not added all the Irish repeaters. A job on my list…
It is noted that in the past I tended to operate this rig in the UK under my M6INI call sign. However, I do ensure all license conditions are met. However, going forward, I will be forced under the new single licensing rule to operate under my full license as M0INI.
